    His research interests center on music of the 20th century, with emphasis on the music of Béla Bartók.  He is currently working on a book on Bartók's years in America, as well as editing the unpublished autobiography of composer Ernst Bacon, whose Emily Dickinson songs are much beloved by singers.  他那本关于Bartók歌剧的书 蓝胡子公爵城堡, published by Oxford University Press, earned sufficient attention from the opera world to warrant re-publication in paperback form.  From 2005-7 he served as President of the Southwest Chapter of the American 音乐ological Society.  He has also been a member of the AMS Council.  A member of the Society for American 音乐, in 2008 he served as Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee for the Society's annual conference, 那一年在圣安东尼奥举行.

    • He has served on boards of directors for the 圣安东尼奥 室内乐 Society, 圣安东尼奥交响乐团, and the 圣安东尼奥 Chamber Choir. He is currently on the board of directors for YOSA, the Youth Orchestras of 圣安东尼奥, and the executive board for the Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
